Our Story

It was Spring, 1989. The Scotch Highland Cattle had been sold, along with my last two horses, and my old pony had died.

The first week, I thought , "Wow! I have so much free time!"

The second week, I’d look out at my pasture and think, Geez . . . it sure looks empty!

And the third week I was miserable!

So when my sister Pam Thomas, of Cisco & Sons in Howell, Michigan called and asked me, Would I take one of her jacks?, she really didn’t have to twist my arm at all!

Naturally, I didn’t want to have a lonely donkey, so I co-purchased a small standard jennet, strictly as a companion for my soon to be delivered jack, Rocket Man.

After a short while, it quickly became apparent how wonderful these two donkeys were, and one day my husband Paul said to me . . . "You know, as long as you’re going to have a female, it might as well be a miniature jennet" . . . and so it began.

I never dreamed back in 1989 that I’d ever get hooked on the little donks, or that I'd end up breeding, but here I am, all these years later, still loving to hug donkeys !

I’m a small operation, keeping my herd size to around twenty, as I never want to feel that it’s a “chore” to go out to the barn. I breed with emphasis on conformation, personality and bloodlines and am proud to produce QUALITY animals – healthy and friendly – at affordable prices. Honest representation is paramount !

I breed a select number of my jennets each year , usually resulting in three to five foals , and my feelings are this. I don’t HAVE to sell any of them……..I CHOOSE to. So when a donkey leaves my farm , I must feel confident that its going to as good a home, as it has here with me. A donkey sale to me, translates into the start of a new and long lasting friendship.

While I like to tell people that I feel Miniature Donkeys are more like dogs in personality, than horses or ponies, I also like to warn them: Miniature Donkeys are Addictive!

I occasionally work in partnership with my sister Pam Thomas, of Cisco & Sons (who hooked me after breeding for several years herself!). We frequently have animals for sale, and if we don’t have what you’re looking for, we’re happy to help you find it.

Visitors are always welcome – both on this website and at the farm – as I love to introduce folks to the joys of Miniature Donkeys. I’m always happy to talk donkeys…..whether you make a purchase from me or not. Just give a call, to make sure I'll be around.
